police lost report & investigation report

a fr of mine was at the ATM machine withdrawing $$..
she left her laptop on the machine...
thereafter she left without her lappy..

she return within 10min..
but lappy is gone...

thereafter, she went to police station to make a lost report...

Usually we'll assume tat police may help us do some searching for the laptop..
ACTUALLY NO..

when u make a lost report, police will only do a recording of it...
they WONT help u look for it...

However, IF u make an "Investigation" report..
then police will then have to help u search/investigate...

Lesson 1:
rem to tell the police u wana make "Investigation" report if u lost something n need to find it back...

my fr called up bank to see if they captured the person's face thru the ATM machine's camera...
n bank camera did capture the person's face...
they help to chk the time n who withdraw money at tat time...
& they have the identity of the person ...

so my fr called police stn to inform the police abt bank found out the identity of the person...
but the police did not do anything for few wks...

Lesson 2:
Have to keep calling police to rush them to get things done...

finally the police went to the person's hse...
apparently the person may be charged for theft...
my fr dun have the power to decide whether to press charges on him..
this depends on the police liao...

Lesson 3:
better return anything tats not urs...
